Willie Ray Johnson was a true Renaissance man — a gifted artist, soulful musician, and master of the culinary craft. While his talents spanned many fields, his passion came alive in the kitchen, where he created his signature sauce, known as Base — the heart of his legacy.
 
More than just a sauce, it was an experience, rooted in southern tradition, family, and bold creativity, and the reason his ribs became legendary in Indianapolis. Though Willie passed in 2016, his legacy lives on through his wife, Gussie, his family, and every jar shared.
